What have you enjoyed most about your career?

“What I’ve enjoyed most about my career is the opportunity to help people and solve problems. Whether working in government, politics, or HR, I’ve been able to collaborate directly with others to achieve shared goals. This aspect of my work is incredibly fulfilling and motivates me every day.”

How did Carthage prepare you?

“My professors and the staff at Carthage really helped me prepare for my career. The kindness and mentorship that everyone offers is unmatchable.”

How has your liberal arts education benefited you?

“In my current position, I developed and implemented a work-from-home policy for our employees. I researched and analyzed how to apply the policy in a manufacturing setting. I drew on my liberal arts skills and knowledge from several classes to help navigate writing and implementing my first policy.”

Why did you choose Carthage?

“I chose Carthage for its ideal location and the exceptional professors. I wanted to attend a smaller school while still being close to the city, and Carthage was the perfect fit. Plus, the lake was an added bonus! I also valued the small class sizes because it allowed me to build strong relationships with my professors and feel more comfortable asking questions or attending office hours. Ultimately, it was the professors at Carthage who truly made the decision easy for me.”

What opportunities were made possible because of your Carthage experience?

“My history in politics and government was made possible because of an experience sophomore year. I went to Washington D.C. for a semester to live, study, and work on the hill. I found out about the program because of the departmental emails that our professors sent. While I was there, I got to intern for Congressman Ron Kind for a few months!”

What Carthage professors played a part in your success and how?

“So many of the professors and staff played a part in my successes. Professors Dimitri Shapovalov, Jerald Mast, Jeffery Roberg, Victor Escobedo, Jennifer Clark, Maggie Burk, and many others all encouraged me to approach challenges with a deeper understanding and curiosity, while also providing a supportive space. I am deeply grateful for having professors who were both understanding and compassionate. Even during my struggles with mental health, they were there to work with me and help me succeed.”
